Upcoming Event: Wikipedia Interest Group at Vitale II Lab, Penn Library, Friday, Sept. 26

Beginning this month, the Vitale II lab in the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts will be hosting a Wikipedia interest group for monthly Wikipedia edit-a-thons, with the aim of bringing the holdings of the Van Pelt Library, particularly those of the Kislak Center, to bear in Wikipedia entries. We’ll add digital images of Penn materials to Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia’s database of images, and we’ll also create new entries, and update and add sources to existing ones, focusing on a different topic each month. For the first month we’ll focus on the basics:

* Setting up a Wikipedia account
* How to add materials to Wikimedia Commons
* How to edit a Wikipedia entry

The first meeting of the Wikipedia interest group will be on Friday, September 26th, from 11:30 to 1:30. Light snacks and drinks will be provided, and attendees are welcome to bring lunch. Bring a laptop, if you have one; a small number of laptops will be available in the lab. Vitale II is located on the sixth floor of Van Pelt Library, room 623.

Please share this announcement with your colleagues and students. Questions? Contact Dot Porter, at do…@upenn.edu
